1. Take a close-up
Get within a foot or two of the damage so we can see the depth of the scratch or chip. Keep the camera steady and tap the screen to focus on the damaged area.
2. Take a wider shot
Step back a few feet and photograph the whole panel. This shows us where the damage sits (bumper corner, door, mirror, hood) and how large the area is.
3. Mind the light
- Daylight or open shade is ideal.
- Avoid direct flash on glossy paint — the glare hides scratches.
- If the scratch only shows at an angle, take one photo at that angle too.
4. Add the details
Along with the photos, include:
- Year, make and model of the vehicle
- The town where you'd like the service done
- Your preferred days and times
- Anything that matters for timing — like a lease return date or a sale listing
